I love Mother's Day. This day celebrates your first love - your mom. It also happens to fall during the most beautiful time of the year. Mother's Day serves as a day of reflection and appreciation of all that moms do- all that we do, all that our daughters do and all that our mother has done.
Great mothers are a special breed - they are selfless, loving, fiercely protective, spiritually grounded and full of common sense. They can multitask, have eyes in the backs of their heads, know what you're doing even if they are not present and have a voice whose recording plays back in your mind at opportune moments. Moms Rock! And, Moms are incredible "influencers" in our society.
As so many of us, I have been blessed by an amazing mom. My beautiful, dark eyed, petite mom is more ornery than a grizzly bear when it comes to protecting her kids. She believes in us, no matter the circumstance. Her unshakable confidence that her kids could do anything they set their minds to, helped my four siblings and I grow to be unique creatures all gifted in different ways.
My mom SACRIFICED alot. She wanted more opportunities for her kids than she had herself. My mom was educated in a one room schoolhouse - her children were educated in parochial, same gender schools, allowing them to be themselves and to grow and flourish. She is one of the most generous people I know, I strive to be the same.
My mom is a FIGHTER. Her husband, my daddy, was diagnosed with acute Multiple Sclerosis when mom was in her late twenties. Imagine receiving that diagnosis as a young wife living in a east coast town far from her midwest rural homestead. Imagine having just given birth to your fourth child and receiving that grave news. But it did not stop her. Mom continued to FIGHT to make the best home she could under the stressful circumstances. Her life as she envisioned it changed radically, but she continued on, taking care of my dad and her five children. I simply don't know how she did it.
This blog is dedicated to all moms - our first loves.
To my mom, I love you. You have helped to mold me into the woman I am today and for that I am forever grateful. Your love for me served as an example of the love I was to have for my children and I pray that this cycle of love continues as long as time. To my sweet mother in law, who showed my husband how to love, I miss you and I thank you for the gift of an incredible son.
May God bless mothers. Happy Mother's Day, you rockin' mom!
